I found a little honey farm table at Goodwill for $40 bucks and snatched it up quick like! I was going to put it in my studio and make it all cute, but I really liked it in the kitchen. You probably have one right now sitting in your home. Paint it! You will fall in love with it again! I had a round pedestal table, but everyone kept hitting their knees on it underneath. It was a pain...literally. It probably fit the space better, but I am in love with this table now that it's been painted. Just like I envisioned.
I just did a few simple things...I painted the table white after sanding and priming. I found the chandy at Habitat for Humanity. It was ugly brass, so I spray painted it white. I found the lampshades at a yard sale. I ripped the black fabric off and wrapped jute twine around them with a little hot glue. I love the texture and they look so coastal! I got this idea from a reader...Melinda. Thanks Melinda!
I used burlap on a spring rod...just by sewing a seam at the top for the rod and then I used the same jute twine to tie them up. It's not fancy schmany, but I like the relaxed feel of them. We don't need the privacy, so they'll stay tied up and I like the sheer-ness of them.
I bought a set of 6 of these chairs at a thrift store. They are a vanilla cream color, so I spray painted them white and recovered the seat with the gray velour damask. I found this fabric at the local discount fabric warehouse. As I'm looking at this photo, I can see I need to add more spray paint to the back. Arrrg!
It just takes a little time to re-do a space so you'll love it. What do you want to re-do right now...that you keep putting off?

Beautiful! I love how open and airy it all looks!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the lampshades too!!!
OK. Everything about this re-do makes me happy. The burlap is genius and who needs fancy when it looks that good? The table and chairs are awesome and I just yard saled (yes it is a verb) a set like this 2 weeks ago and bought one I don't have to redo. Call it lazy. Currently, I have 2 cheapy end tables that are too short. My brain is in overdrive with all the ideas for them but I am thinking of painting them white, adding wheels to the bottom and doing some sort of linen or some fabric inlay in the center. Hard to imagine without a pic. When I do it, I will send it! Thanks for the post with great inspiration!
ReplyDeleteMy problem is that I work on too many things at once and can't seem to finish any. :-) I'm in a "lightening/brightening" mood at my house but since I can't change everything I'm compromising as I go along.
ReplyDeleteOops! Meant to say that I like your makeover too. :-) I'm working on that same color valance for my sunporch right now.
ReplyDeleteLooks great. The white paint lightened up the entire space.
ReplyDeleteThat looks so AWESOME!

ReplyDeleteLove your ideas. Isn't it so fulfilling to find a bargin and turn it into a treasure. It really looks great too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a huge difference the white makes. I have no idea what your round table looked like, but this looks great! I love the idea of using the twine on the lampshades. I might have to try that!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness, that is my EXACT dining room table (mine is still honey)...
ReplyDelete...talk to me about painting it... how much sanding did you have to do? what type of paint did you use? how long did the total project take?

Hi Kristi,
ReplyDeleteI just came across your blog tonight. I absolutely love your kitchen/dining table and chairs. You did a magnificent job on everything. I have an old dining room suite that belonged to one of my great uncles. It is brown and depressing. I have wanted to paint it. I am going to go for it now. Thank you for the motivation.
Kim
Fantastic! And it does have a sort of beach cottage-y feel now.
ReplyDeleteI would love to paint the boring oak pedestal table that we have. . . but it's one of the few pieces that hubs actually brought into our marriage (IE he liked it enough to buy it and keep it) and he'd have a COW if I painted it. So I'll just look at yours & dream.
Hi there! I LOVE your blog and home! Can you tell me where you bought the burlap for your valances in your dining area? It looks like a finer gauge than I see at Hobby Lobby and such. Thanks for sharing!
